'Henry Hulton Esq. First Commissioner of His Majesty's Customs in America; who lived in a regular performance of the Divine, Social and Personal Duties and died lamented by his family and friends in the 14th Feby 1790 aged 59. He married Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Isaac Preston of this Parish; who died at Andover 15 April 1805 aged 66'

Notes: Henry Hulton was First Commissioner of His Majesty's Customs & Excise at Boston Massachusetts tasked with collecting George III’s taxes from his American subjects at the time of the 'Boston Tea Party' in 1773. This protest escalated into the American Revolution (1765-1783). His son Thomas, changed his name to Preston, when he inherited Beeston Hall and estate in 1805 from his maternal uncle.

Description: Sarcophagus-shaped tablet of white marble on a dark grey slate ground. The pediment rests on a fluted cornice; below it is a bolection moulding which runs all round the sarcophagus, including the feet. The ground is supported on two white marble discs.
