'Sacred to the Memory / of / Alfred Smith, Master Mariner of this Port / who died off Tampico, in the Gulph of Mexico / 9th June 1833 aged 35 years. / Leaving a wife and five children to lament his loss / also / Thomas Gibson, youngest son of the above. / Who died 29th October 1834, aged 2 years. / Also / William Sidney, Eldest son of the above and late H.B.M. Consul at / Trinidad de Cuba, who died 8th January 1865 / aged 40 years: / By foreign hands thy dying eyes were closed / By foreign hands thy manly limbs composed / By strangers loved / By strangers mourned. / Also of Agnes, only daughter of / Alfred and Thomason Smith / who died 14th March 1868 aged 41 years / Also of Thomason S. Smith / wife and mother of the above / who died 16th October 1868 aged 71 years.'
