'Beneath is the Remains of / John Higgs Lieutenant in his / Majesty's Navy who arrived / on this coast in the year 1804 with Gun Vessels and in the command of which he died March 28th 1809 / Aged 31 Years. / Farewell dear Friend a short farewell / Till we shall meet again above / in the sweet Groves where pleasures dwell / And trees of Life bear Fruits of love.'
