'Here lie the mortal remains of Mary widow of the Revd. Thomas Hopkins Rector of Donyatt and Earnshill who died the 8th March 1843 aged 80 years and of Jane the only child of the Revd. Thos. and Mary Hopkins and wife of Simon Gage Britton M.D. of Newport near Barnstaple who died Jun 12th 1850 aged 69 years and of Simon Gage Britton of Newport Barnstaple who died Mar 6th 1856 aged 73 years.'
