Notes: NEWSPAPERS: CHRISTCHURCH 19th February "Details to hand concerning the drowning of Ernest Saunders, Mate of the tug Sterling, on the 15th February in the Wairora River, show that the deceased was playing out wire rope to tow the barque Kongsbryde. His foot was caught and he was pulled overboard. A search was made but no trace could be found of Saunders, who was twenty eight years old and came from Newcastle, New South Wales."
