Notes: John Jackson Hughes was lifeboat coxswain at Poole for 17 years from March 1882 to September 1899. From 1882, the Poole and Bournemouth Lifeboat was named 'Boy's Own No. 2' as it was a gift from the Boy's Own Magazine. John Hughes' next lifeboat was the 'City Masonic Club' from 1897, being a donation from the freemasons of the City of London. During his tenure as coxswain, John Hughes' crew saved fifty lives.
