'TO COMMEMORATE CAPTAIN GEORGE DUFF RN. / SON OF THE SHERIFF CLARK JAMES DUFF OF BANFF, / WHO WAS KILLED AT THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR ON / 21ST OCTOBER 1805 / WHILST COMMANDING THE 71 GUN SHIP, MARS / AND HIS SON MIDSHIPMAN NORWICH DUFF / LATER VICE ADMIRAL, WHO SAILED WITH HIS FATHER / AND AT THE AGE OF THIRTEEN WAS PRESENT AT THE BATTLE. / Erected on the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, 21st October 2005 / by the Rotary Club of Banff to mark the 100 Anniversary of Rotary International / And by the Banff Preservation and Heritage Society and the Friends of Duff House.'
