'Sacred to the Memory of Mr John Keymer / of the H.C. Marine / who departed this life 24th June 1819 aged 34 years. / This Monument is erected as a lasting / testimony of his virtues by his affectionate / brother James Keymer. / Adieu my friend, a long and sad farewell / No thought can utter, nor no tongue can tell, / the pangs I fell at the dear word farewell.'
