'...Also to the memory of Lieut. William Richards of the R.N. who departed this life of the 9th day of April in the year 1831 aged 43 years. [In his] public capacity through various seas and climes he proved himself a zealous gallant officer, in private life an affectionate husband, a tender parent and an amiable friend. His disconsolate widow caused this stone to be erected to him whose memory she will ever cherish, whose loss she will ever deplore.'
