‘SACRED to the MEMORY / of JAMES MAY of Barnstaple, Merchant / Obt. The 17th July 1730 AET 48 / Also DOROTHY his Widow / Daughter of JOHN SPONER and Niece of / EDWARD PINE both of Eastdown, Esqrs / Obt. The 4th April 1762 AET 55. / Her Mother was the Only Child of / Edward Harlowine of Cottington Esqr. Sidmouth. / ALSO to the MEMORY of their Son, / JOHN MAY Esqr. / an Officer of the Royal Navy / Who early in life was severely wounded / at the Siege of Louis. Bourgh: / he lived respected and beloved / and died sincerely lamented / Sepr. 2nd 1825 Aged 87 Years. / AND to the MEMORY of / CATHERINE his Wife / who died 5th March 1823 Aged 80’
