'At the instance of Capt. Thos. Larkins / and the Memory of / Thomas Poynting, Esq. / Commander of the ship 'Resolution' / in the service of the United Company of / Merchants of England, trading to the East Indies, / who most bravely defended / the 'Resolution' against thirty sail of the Mahratta / fleet. / He died esteemed and honored by those who knew / him / the 28th day of August 1783 aged 53 years.'
