'John Dykes, seaman aged 24 years, who departed this life on the 20th September A.D. 1804 in consequence of wounds received on board His Britannic Majesty's ship the Centurion of 50 guns, which, in a gallant but unequal conflict calculated to increase the glory and maintain the well-established pre-eminance of the British navy, succeeded in beating off a French ship of 80 guns and two frigates in the roads on Vizagapatam'
