'Sacred to the memory of / John Mackeller / Admiral of the Blue in her Majesty's Service / eldest son of Patrick Mackellar. / General of the Royal Engineers; / he departed this life on the 14th of April 1854 / aged 86. / A steady friend, an affectionate husband and a tender father, / his remains are interred in the vaults beneath this church. / This tablet is erected / to his memory / as a token of affection / by his widow and children.'
