'THIS MONUMENT an affectionate Heart-felt tribute to parental tenderness / was erected by Sarah Garencieres and her Sister / Elizabeth Sampson to perpetuate the Memory of / their beloved Parents. / THEOPHILUS DAVYE GARENCIERES ESQr / late ALDERMAN of this CITY, who served the Office / of LORD MAYOR in the Year 1796 and departed this / Life March 13 1803 in the 61st Year of his Age; / and PRUDENCE ELIZABETH GARENCIERES / his Wife, who died Sepr.29th 1801 Aged 59. / Their Younger Son Iohn Wade GARENCIERES / died May 16th 1787 Aged 13. / Their Elder Son THEOPHILUS GARENCIERES / a Lieutenant on board His Majesty`s Ship the Queen / died at St Domingo, of the Yellow Fever, on the 10th of / Jany. 1797 in his 31st Year, and was buried there with / Military honors.'
