'Sacred / to the Memory of / the Hon.ble Pownoll Fleetwood Pellew, Royal Navy / son of Pownoll 2nd Viscount Exmouth / and of Georgina his wife. / He died at Portsmouth on Christmas Day, 1851 / 1st Lieut. Of the Royal Yacht 'Victoria and Albert' / after a short and severe illness / aged 28 years. / Beloved and regretted by all who knew him. / This Tablet / is erected by his bereaved and widowed mother / in testimony of the affliction of his family / and of her deep and desolating loss. / "I shall go to him, but he will not return to me." 2 Sam.
