'IN MEMORY OF / BARKLY REID / LIEUT: OF H.M.S. 'JAMES WATT,' / ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM REID, ESQRE, / OF THE NODE, IN THIS PARISH, / WHOSE DEATH WAS CAUSED BY A FALL FROM HIS HORSE / AT CANEA, ISLE OF CANDIA, / ON THE 7TH MAY, 1861, / IN THE 23RD YEAR OF HIS AGE. / HIS REMAINS ARE INTERRED IN THE / ENGLISH CEMETERY AT MALTA. / THIS TABLET IS ERECTED / BY THE CAPTAIN AND OFFICERS OF THE / 'JAMES WATT,' / AS A MARK OF ESTEEM FOR THE MANY GOOD QUALITIES / BY WHICH HE HAD ATTACHED HIMSELF TO THEM.'

Details

Description: Above the inscription tablet is a plain frieze separated from the cavetto moulded cronice by a torus moulding. Above the cornice, an anchor and coiled rope in high relief. At the sides of the inscription tablet are carved blocks and tackle in relief.
