'ERECTED / IN REMEMBRANCE OF / JOHN STORR, COXSWAIN / WHO WAS DROWNED / WITH ELEVEN OTHERS / BY THE UPSETTING OF THE / LIFE BOAT AT WHITBY / FEBRUARY 8TH 1861 / AND INTERRED HERE / APRIL 28TH 1861 / AGED 50 YEARS / GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS / THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS / ALSO ELIZABETH HIS WIFE / WHO DIED JULY 18TH 1877 / AGED 70 YEARS / AND WAS INTERRED AT THE CEMETERY'
