'IN A COURSE OF SERVICE WHICH INVOLVED / a circuit of the entire globe, the officers / of H.M.S. Pylades, mourned the loss by premature / death of the following of their shipmates / LIEUT. JOHN DAWSON HOPE R.M.A. / who died at Calcutta July 5th 1858 / Aged 21 years / THE REVD. ANDREW LE BROCQ / who died on his homeward passage Sept 19th 1858 / Aged 33 years / ALEXANDER JEFFREYS Esq. PAY MR. / who died at Vancouver Island April 25th 1859 / In sincere sorrow for their untimely deaths / this small tribute of affection is erected by / their brother officers in testimony of their / worth.'
