Young, / ... of this parish: / Born July 7th. 1766 / Died July 7th 1831. / Also of / Jacob Ley Young, their third Son, / Commander in the Royal Navy, / Born November 24th, 1791. / Died at Cockington in this County / September 21st 1851, / and was interred near this spot. / Also to / Sarah, widow of the above / who died on the 26th June 1883, / Aged 75.

Details

Description: Rectangular slate tablet recessed within an elaborate stone frame. At the top is a trapeze-shaped pediment infilled with roses and other flowers in low relief, below this is a moulded outer frame with square corners, and inside that a band which slopes inwards and has a carved decoration of vine-leaves and grapes. The top corners of this band are rounded. At the bottom of the frame is a band of dog tooth decoration and below each corner a bracket with foliage. The lettering is gothic caps and lower case incised and stained black. There has been severe damage from damp with flaking and efflorescence, particularly on the pediment and at the left bottom corner. There is a crack on the right-hand side of the tablet.
