'Here rests the mortal remains of / the Right Honourable JAMES Lord De SAUMAREZ / Baron of the United Kingdom and Baronet / Admiral of the Red General of Marines / Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath and of / the Royal Order of the Sword of Sweden DCL. / Looking unto Jesus for a blessed resurrection / He departed this life with the joyful hope / of immortal glory on the 9 of October 1836 / in the 80th year of his age / England's history records his public character / the voice of this island his private virtues / Also the mortal remains of / the Right Honourable MARTHA Baroness DE SAUMAREZ / relict of the above who departed this life on / the 17th of April 1849 in the 81st year of her age / Four of their children are also interred here / MARY DOBREE died 25 September 1812 / CARTERET died 19 June 1814 / THOMAS LE MARCHANT died 4th of July 1834 / MARTHA HARRIET died 2nd of January 1848 / Here also are deposited the remains of / CAROLINE ESTHER wife of Colonel / the Honourable JOHN ST VINCENT SAUMAREZ'
