'Sacred to the Memory of / MR SIMON FOX of Milltown / near Dublin who perished in / the wreck of the Rothsay Castle / Steam Packet in Beaumaris bay / on the night of the 17th August 1831 / in the 51st year of his age leaving / a widow and a large young family / to deplore his loss / the Parishioners of Rathmines / Dublin have Erected this / monument as a token of their / Esteem for his memory / He was accompanied by his / friend the Revd. SIMON MCARTHY Roman Catholic curate of / Rathmines who also perished / in the same Wreck and whose Remains were removed to Dublin for interment / May they rest in peace'
