'To the memory of the of the officers and men who perished on the occasion of the wreck, on this coast of His Britannic Majesty's Ships Crescent, 36 guns on 6th December 1808 and St George 98 guns, and Defence 74 guns on 24 December 1811 many of whom were interred in this churchyard. This tablet is inscribed by the British Admiralty in the year 1895'
