Extra

Notes: The Lifeboat ‘Beauchamp’ lunched to rescue a fishing smack. Unfortunately the ‘Beauchamp’ capsized rough seas and only three crew members survived - John Hubbard, Charles Knights and Walter Haylett. Veteran Lifeboatman James Haylett had two sons, a son-in-law and two grandsons on the boat. At the inquiry, Haylett said: ‘Caister men never turn back’. The phrase ‘Never Turn Back’ was adopted as the motto of the RNLI.
