Notes: Wounded in an action with a slave dhow, while attempting an inspection. Five burials on Funzi Island are Royal Navy and Royal Marine personnel. Stone and Irwin’s wooden headstones are now in the old Peace Museum stores, Stone Town, Zanzibar. They are not on display as they are too damaged.
A bronze plaque was erected by his officers in St George’s Church, Isle of Poole, Dorset, England, commemorating Able Seaman Stone. The plaque notes the date of death as 10th June 1887, and his age as 19 years.
