'TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF / WILLIAM HALLAM ELTON COMMANDER ROYAL NAVY / SON OF THE REVD WILLIAM TIERNEY ELTON / SOMETIME RECTOR OF THIS PARISH / BORN 4TH JANUARY 1857 DIED 25TH NOVEMBER 1910 / THEY THAT GO DOWN TO THE SEA IN SHIPS. / THAT DO BUSINESS IN GREAT WATERS: / THESE SEE THE WORKS OF THE LORD / AND HIS WONDERS IN THE DEEP.'
