'IN A VAULT BENEATH THIS SPOT / LIE THE REMAINS OF / THE HONOURABLE GEORGE CRANFIELD BERKELEY / SECOND SON OF AUGUSTUS, FOURTH EARL OF BERKELEY, / ADMIRAL OF THE RED IN HIS MAJESTY'S NAVY / KNIGHT GRAND CROSS / OF THE MOST HONOURABLE ORDER OF THE BATH, / AND LORD HIGH ADMIRAL OF PORTUGAL, / DURING THE SUCCESSSFUL STRUGGLE OF THAT NATION / AGAINST FRENCH USERPATION / LIKE MANY OF HIS ANCESTORS HE DEVOTED HIS LIFE / TO THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY / DIED THE 24TH OF FEBRUARY 1818 / AGED 64 YEARS AND SIX MONTHS .'
