‘In Memory of / Captain JAMES WELSH R.N. / who died on his Passage from Vera Cruz to Jamaica, / November the fourth 1809 / In the thirty ninth Year of his Age. / His Abilities and extensive Knowledge in his Profession / Are regretted by those who witness'd them; / His Social and Domestic Virtues by all / Connected with him. / This Tablet is inscribed as the Tribute of unremitting Affection / from his Widow.'
