'NEAR THIS PLACE ARE LAID THE MORTAL REMAINS OF / CAPTAIN SIR CHRISTOPHER COLE, ROYAL NAVY, / KNIGHT COMMANDER OF THE BATH, COLONEL OF MARINES, / MASONIC PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER FOR SOUTH WALES, / D.C.L., AND FOR TWELVE YEARS THE REPRESENTATIVE FOR THIS COUNTY. / IN A PROFESSIONAL CAREER OF 56 YEARS, HE WAS 34 IN ACTIVE SERVICE. / IN 1810 HE CAPTURED THE BANDA SPICE ISLANDS / WITHOUT THE LOSS OF A MAN. / HIS LIFE WAS MARKED BY DISINTERESTED ZEAL, / INTEGRITY AND UNWEARIED ATTENTION TO HIS PUBLIC DUTIES, / AND IN PRIVATE BY HUMBLE PIETY, AFFECTION FOR HIS RELATIVES, / SINCERITY TO HIS FRIENDS, AND TENDERNESS TO HIS WIFE. / HE WAS BORN AT MARAZION IN CORNWALL, JUNE 10, 1770, / MARRIED IN 1815 THE RIGHT HONOURABLE LADY MARY LUCY, / RELICT OF T. MANSEL TALBOT, ESQ., OF PENRICE CASTLE. / ON THE 24TH AUGUST, 1836, / HE WAS SUDDENLY CALLED INTO THE PRESENCE OF HIS MAKER. / IN THE SAME VAULT LIE ALSO / THE REMAINS OF LADY MARY LUCY, SECOND DAUGHTER OF / HENRY THOMAS EARL OF ILCHESTER, / MARRIED FIRSTLY TO THOMAS MANSEL TALBOT, ESQ., / OF THIS PLACE BY WHOM SHE HAD / ONE SON AND SEVEN DAUGHTERS. / SHE MARRIED SECONDLY / THE ABOVE NAMED SIR CHRISTOPHER COLE K.C.B., SHE DIED FEBRUARY 3RD, 1855, AGED 79 / THERE REMAINETH THEREFORE A REST FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD.
