Extra

Notes: Halyburton's father was the Earl of Morton. He commanded a barge which was caught in a snowstorm, while attempting to round up crew members who had deserted when sent ashore for water. The remainder of the boat's crew other than Champion and Towers, were described as 'Young gentlemen'. Halyburton's mother erected a memorial at the spot in 1808 but this was destroyed by a French landing party. The remains were rediscovered in 1909 and re-interred at Cyprus Hills National Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
