'AS / A Tribute of / Grateful Affection, / This Monument / is sacred / To the Memory of / CAPTAIN / JOSIAS ROGERS, / Of His MAJESTY's Ship / QUEBEC.', 'Who, during the American War, braved every Danger, / And suffered all the Severities of Wounds and Imprisonment. / In the Campaign of 1794, he commanded the Naval Battalions / At the Reduction of the French Islands in the West Indies: / Where his Services were great to his Country, and honourable to his own Character. / In his Excursions to save Grenada, he died of the Yellow Fever, on the 24th of April, 1795, aged 40. / The COUNCIL of Grenada decreed a Monument in Honour of his PUBLIC SERVICES: / And in Remembrance of his PRIVATE VIRTUES, his Widow / soothed her Sorrows, / By inscribing this Tablet to his Memory. / By the same dreadful Disorder, on the 13th May, 1794, (after having distinguish'd himself / in the Dangers and Fatigues of the Campaign) fell at Guadeloupe in his 26th Year, / JAMES ROGERS, his Brother, and First LIEUTENANT of the same ship: / Whose generous and manly Principles were admired / by All who knew him. / On the 9th of the same Month, at the Age of 19: the Promise of Virtue and Talents, in JOSIAS ROGERS, his Nephew / and also LIEUT. of the QUEBEC, / died at Martinique, by the same Fatality'
