'Sacred / to the memory of / Captain / WILLIAM LAUGHARNE / Royal Navy / who died / in the city of Bath / November 6th 1856 / aged 71 years. Of him it may be justly recorded that / to his country, his relatives, his friends / and the poor of this parish he faithfully did his duty in that state of life to which it had pleased God to call him'
