'Under this stone are deposited the bodies of Thomas George Shortland Esquire who was Port Captain in and the Commissioner of His Majesty's Navy resident at Port Royal and died on the 23rd day of November 1827. His daughter also Elizabeth Shortland who died on 25th day of the same month aged 25'
