'IN MEMORY OF / ARTHUR GORE ALLEYNE / ELDEST SON OF THE REV FORSTER ALLEYNE / RECTOR OF KENTISBEARE. / HE WAS MIDSHIPMAN OF HMS CURACOA / AND DIED OF FEVER ON BOARD THAT SHIP JANUARY 26TH 1861 / AGED 19 YEARS / DEEPLY REGRETTED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM / HIS REMAINS WERE INTERRED IN THE ENGLISH CEMETERY / AT MONTE VIDEO SE COAST OF AMERICA / WHERE A SIMPLE MONUMENT HAS BEEN ERECTED / OVER HIS GRAVE BY ALL HIS SHIPMATES'

Description: Rectangular white marble base on small plinths, supporting a coffin shaped marble design within a stepped cornice, surmounted by a pediment on which is a cross and anchor entwined in relief. All mounted on a black marble surround. Inscription is incised in black lettering in Roman capitals.
