'To the memory of John Macgregor Skinner, Commander RN, for 33 years captain of the Royal Mail Packet on this station, whilst serving his country 57 years lost his life at sea 30 October 1832 in the 72nd year of his age. The obelisk erected on Alltron Rock recorded the mournful event'
