'Lieut. John Guest, son of the Revd Joseph Guest MA formerly vicar of this parish and Rachel his wife. During a period of thirty years he served his king and country both by sea and land and was present in some of the principal engagements fought by Rodney, Nelson and Wellington in which he received several severe wounds. At the peace in 1815, he returned to his native city Hereford, where he died on the 13th day of Aug 1820 in the 54th year of his age. This memorial is erected by his affectionate son Joseph on his return from the East Indies in 1838'
