'This tablet was placed here by members of the Warneford family throughout the world in memory of Flight Sub Lieutenant Reginald Alexander John Warneford VC RN Chevalier of the Legion of Honour aged 23 years son of the late Reginald William Henry Warneford Chaplain to the forces in India. Great nephew of the Rev Canon Warneford of Warneford Place. He was honoured by his king with the Victoria Cross and the French Nation with the medal of the Legion of Honour for pursuing and destroying singlehanded a Zeppelin airship near Ghent in Belgium on the 7th June 1915. He was killed 10 days later when flying in Paris on 17th June 1915 and lies buried in Brompton Cemetery where the nation has shown its gratitude and recognition of his great achievement in the erection of a memorial by public subscription'
