‘Sacred / to the memory of / Capt. JOHN HALSTED RN / third son of the late / Capt ANTHONY HALSTED RN / who died at Exeter / on the 2 day of November 1830 / Deeply and deservedly lamented by his afflicted family / Also to the memory of / Lieut LAWRENCE WILLIAM HALSTED / of the 87th Royal Irish Fusiliers, Eldest son of the above / who was accidentally killed by falling from a Window / in Chester Castle on the 14th of March 1829 / His remains are interred in the Cathedral of that city / where a Monument is erected by his Brother officers / to record their sorrow at his melancholy fate'
