'SACRED / TO THYE MEMORY OF / REAR ADMIRAL / THE HONBLE MAJOR ADMIRAL JACOB HENNIKER / OF ASHDOWN PARK, IN THIS PARISH / HE WAS / IN CONSTANT ACTIVE SERVICE IN / VARIOUS / PARTS OF THE GLOBE / FROM HIS FIRST ENTERING THE NAVY / IN 1794 / TO THE CLOSE OF THE WAR IN 1814 / AND DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF IN / SEVERAL ENGAGEMENTS / HE DIED JUNE 5TH 1843 / LEAVING A NUMEROUS FAMILY / TO MOURN HIS IRREPERABLE LOSS.'
