'SPES / FIDES / CHARITUS / In / Memory of / George Trotter / of / Gateshead-on-Tyne / who died December 4th 1781 / aged 41 years / Dorothy, his widow, died June 27th 1818, Aged 80 years / Three of their children died in infancy / JOHN WILLIAM TROTTER, their son / died / February 18th, aged 80 in 1850 / He was a Master and Commander in Royal Navy, / and had seen much service at sea and was Master / of LEVIATHAN, line of battle ship in the ever / memorable Battle of Trafalgar, for which he was / awarded by the Sovereign, with a War medal, and / his memory will long be cherished by a numerous / circle of attached friends, for the many excellent / qualities which adorned his character'
