'SPES EST ANCHORA ANIMI / THIS TRIBUTE / OF THE / Respect Affection Gratitude and Sorrow / OF HIS DEEPLY AFFECTED FRIENDS AND FLOCK / is erected to the memory of / THE REV. JOHN ROBB, A.M. / Minister of the United Parishes of / DUNKELD AND DOWALLY / Who in a voyage for the benefit of his health / PERISHED BY THE WRECK OF THE 'FORFARSHIRE' STEAMSHIP/ Off the Fern Islands,/On the 7th September 1838, / AND WAS BURIED IN BAMBOROUGH CHURCHYARD. / Endowed by Nature with superior talents, / Guided by the purest Religious Principles, / Adorned by valuable Literary Acquirements, / Possessing the Highest Qualifications / for his/Sacred Office / And distinguished by Zeal, Faithfulness and Diligence / In the discharge of his important Duties, / He had, during his short Ministry greatly endeared himself / To all classes of his Parishioners, / Who now lament in him the loss of / A KIND FRIEND AND ABLE PREACHER AND A BELOVED PASTOR. / He was born at Lamington, in Lanarkshire, 23RD day of Sep. 1798, / And Ordained Minister of this Parish 14th day of July 1836. / "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour / wherein the Son of Man cometh."
