'Sacred to Posterity / Be the Memory of CONINGESBY NORBURY Esq / Captain of one of his Majesty's ships of War / And Envoy from KING GEORGE the first, to the Court of Morocco / To redeem the British Slaves / His merit justly raised him to this Eminence / He distinguished himself early in the Service of his Country / By his Courage / which appeared with Admiral Benbowe in the West Indies / And with Sr George Byng in the Battle of Syracuse / Nor was he less remarkable for the Social Virtues / Generous and Hospitable without ostentation / A friend to the cause of Liberty / Loyal to his Prince / and just to Mankind / As He was generally beloved so he died much lamented / The Death of a brave Man / is a Loss to his country / He was buried by his own Desire in a Vault / in Dodderil Church Yard, June 16 1734 / aged 56 / In the same vault lieth the Body of Mrs ELIZABETH NORBURY / sister to Captain NORBURY she was a Woman of exemplary / Piety and Virtue She died January the 21st 1747 Aged 66 / And in the same vault lies the body of MRS HESTER NORBURY / the relict of the above Captain NORBURY she died the 4th / of January 1753 Aged 66 / in the same Vault is deposited the Body of CICILIA NORBURY / She was the Eldest Sister to the above Captain NORBURY / and died Feb 10 1758 Aged 80 / In the same Vault lies the Body of PHILIPPA NORBURY / sister to the above Captain NORBURY / She died Oct 24 1766 Aged 80' [On apron] 'Near this place are interred RICHARD and CICILIA the Father & / Mother of the above CONINGESBY NORBURY. She died the 11th / of June 1714 in the 58th Year of her Age. / He died the 12th of July 1729 in the 81st Year of his age / In the same grave are deposited the remains of ELIZABTH HILL Grand-daughter of the / above named RICHD & CICILIA NORBURY She died Novr 13th 1799 Aged 83 / She was a daughter of RICHD NORBURY a Brother of the above named Capt NORBURY'
