'Near this place are deposited the remains / of Thomas Griffin Esq. of Hadnock in this Parish / Admiral of the White Squadron of His Majesty's Fleet / who departed this life 23rd Decr 1771 aged 78 yrs / Also of Elizabeth Griffin the wife of the above named / Thomas Griffin who died 23 May 1781 aged 71 years / Also of Thomas Griffin Esq, Barrister at Law / eldest son / of the beforenamed Thomas and Elizabeth Griffin / who died 28th April 1788 aged 49 years / Also of George Henry the infant son of / Griffin Esq. of Newton in this Parish / who died 18th October 1801 / Also of the above George Griffin youngest son / of the beforenamed Thomas and Elizabeth Griffin / He died 17th December 1802 aged 57 years / Also of Catherine Griffin relict of the beforenamed / George Griffin who died at Newton House in the seventieth year / of her age on the 15th September 1838 / Deeply lamented / 'We are more than conquerors through him that loved us.'
