'NEAR / this place rests the Body / of JOHN ADDEY / of this parish / one of the King's master shipwrights / who departed this World / in Assured hope / of his Resurrection/the 16th of April Anno Dm / 1606 Aetatis Suae 56. / His tomb being demolished / this stone was Erected / at the expence of the Parish / January 1788'

Details

Description: Rectangular vertically set stone memorial, this us surmounted by a moulded triangular pediment supported on two pilasters, in the centre of each of these is a circle containing a Tudor rose. Below is a moulded shelf. The inscription tablet between the pilasters is shaped as shown. The inscription is in Roman caps and lower case, the long "s" is used. The third line is in sloped lettering. This memorial forms a unit with the Benefaction Monument immediately below, to which it is seen to be connected by plain brackets.
