Bowyer Lieutenant to ADMIRAL MEDLEY / On board His MAJESTY'S Ship the Russell / Dyed at sea, near Gibraltar / August 9th 1745, at the age of 24 / Of whom / The following Character was transmitted / By the ADMIRAL and OFFICERS of the Navy / A Sailor / Beyond his years experienced / An Officer / Without severity maintaining Discipline / His behaviour to his Superiors justly respectful / To his Inferiors properly affable / His Courage and Resolution / Indispensable Qualifications of a person / Thus engaged in the service of his Country / Were in the West Indies / In several Engagements / Eminently Distinguished / Quod quisque vehimenter Amat / Ejus non potest Oblivisci'

Description: The inscription tablet is surrounded by a Greek key pattern border. Carved with a ship in full sail, navigational instruments etc on the apron below. A broken pediment surmounts the memorial, with a cartouche in the centre.
