[Top] 'Captain Edward Thornborough Parker /died on 27 September 1801' [East side] 'The remains of Capt. E.T. Parker RN / Are here interr'd / Wounded 15 August 1801 off Boulogne / And on 27th September following / Terminated his career of glory / In the 23rd year of his age.' [North side] ' This stone records the gallant hero's name / whose youthful bosom glow'd with virtue's flame / A nation heard with tears his mournful doom / the flower of Valour wither'd in its bloom.'

Notes: Inscription now illegible, but an additional bronze plaque transcribing it was been added by The 1805 Club and The Deal Society in September 1999. His funeral was attended by Admiral Lord Nelson, who was a close friend.
