'Ernest Robert RAINIER SWINEY Col Mil Indian Army formerly commanding 1st Btn 39th Garhwal Rifles who having served his country with distinction for over 30 years, lost his life in the Mediterranean on Dec 30th 1915 through the sinking of SS Persia by an enemy submarine aged 52 years.
