'To the Memory / of / Richard Ottawell / Late a Quarter Master / in the R.N. on board H.M.S. / Revenge / Who after a service of upwards / of 25 years, / returned to visit his relations / in this County, / and whilst walking with his uncle / Mr. Richd. Vincent / on the 24th Septr. 1833 / ruptured a blood vessel in the lungs, / in consequence / of which life became extinct / in about 20 minutes. / So that it is true that in the midst of life / we are in death'
