Transcript

'To the Pious Memory of Capt John Bennet senior late of Pool in the county of Dorset who died 8 Maii MDCCXI Aetat 74. And of Mary his wife who deceas'd 9 Januar MDCCXV Aetat 46 [?]. Both lying here interred. Captain John Bennet their only son who died 30 Januar MDCCXVI Aet 40 and layeth in a vault under an altar tomb in the church yard. Ordered by his will this monument to be erected which accordingly was perform'd by Abraham Edlin Gent his acting executor. He bequeathed to the poor of this Parish 100L distributed among them by the aforesaid executor as also 10L more to be disposed of in like manner by the hands of the church wardens. To the corporation of Pool the place of his nativity 300L for the use of the poor there. And 10L to the poor of Harbridge in Hantshire. All paid by his executor'
