'To the Memory of / SACKVILLE TURNER Esqr / (a Captain in his Majesty's 33rd Regiment / and of / SARAH his wife / the only child of EDWARD CROCKLEY of Watton in Norfolk Gent / who were cast away and drowned in their passage / to Ireland on the night of the 5th of Septr 1774 / this stone is dedicated, / by their most affectionate and most afflicted brother, BARNARD TURNER. / To enumerate their virtues were an endless task, / and to number his sighs were vain. / Patience here / Her meek Hands folded on her modest Breast / In mute submission lifts th' adoreing Eye / Ev'n to the Power that wounds her.'

Notes: 'The Elizabeth, Capt Weeks from Bristol to Cork was driven on the Ness Point in the Bristol Channel and beat to pieces. The Captain, Mate, some passengers and part of the crew to the number of 26 in all were drowned. Among the passengers were Capt Sackville Turner of the 33rd Regiment and his Lady who perished in each others' arms; in that position they were found and in that position interred. They have left two children,the eldest not two years old incapable of knowing the loss of such endearing parents.' 'Gentleman's Magazine'.
