The Scottish born Thomas Cochrane was one of the Royal Navy's most gallant and able officers. He is partially responsible for the independence of Chile, alongside a number of other nations, having served as her Admiral during the War for Independence. Bibliography: 'The Graphic' 22 February 1873.
